
The Octopus card is one of the example which used the RFID technology, it works as a rechargeable contactless stored value smart card that used to transfer electronic payments in Hong Kong.
The card was introduced in 1997 which used initially for the mass transport system, it was the first contactless smart card system over the globe and has since grown into a widely used payment system for virtually all public transport in Hong Kong.
Also, the card can be used for payment such like convenience stores, supermarkets, fast-food restaurants, and so forth.
Besides of making payment, the card can also be used as the personal identification card in companies or schools. Some Primary and Secondary schools are currently used the Octopus Card for recording the attendance of the students, and many new private housing estate uses Octopus as the security card of the resident for passing in and out the estate.
